Shumirai joined the MYST lab in June 2010. Having grown up in a family where Down syndrome was present, she has always wanted to understand more about typical and atypical development. In Zimbabwe, Shumirai worked as a substitute teacher for visually handicapped children, some of whom had other developmental disorders. After moving to Canada, she worked with the Montreal West Adaptation Centre providing care for children with autism. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from Concordia. She is interested in studying the accessibility of services for families with children with developmental and learning disabilities across Canada and how factors such as socioeconomic status play a role.
